There are two types of Roulette - American and French roulette.
French Roulette
French Roulette is the predecessor of the American version and is mostly played in European casinos (and dealt in French). Although the equipment and the language used differs, it is in principle the same game as American roulette, although it is played a little more slowly. French roulette is played on a table roughly twice the size of that used for American roulette. American Roulette American Roulette, which is played with two zeros, is derived from the original French version (however the French version of roulette is played with only 1 zero. American Roulette is played on a large table which is printed with the normal roulette betting layout. At one end of the table is a wheel encased in a wooden cylinder which turns on a spindle. This is called “the wheel”. The wheel is divided into 38 sections numbered from 1 – 36 inclusive plus the 00 numbered section. Each number is either red or black and the zeros are coloured green. Each player uses different coloured chips and each table has its own set of chips with a unique design. The aim of roulette is to predict the number (or quadrant) in which the ball will land. The ball is usually spun by a dealer or a random number generator and must go around the wheel 3 times (and make 3 revolutions) before dropping in to one of the numbered sections on the wheel. The ball moves in the opposite direction to which the wheel is spun.
